Common Garage Door Opener Problems05/09/2014 Back To Blog
A garage door opener is used to open mechanical garage doors. It is one of the handiest and most useful things you have at home, but it could also be at risk for malfunctions, just like other mechanical items. Here are some common problems you might encounter with your opener:
Remote Stops Working
Quitting remote controls is the most common problem of garage door openers. You will know if there is a problem with it if you try to operate the door using the interior switch. If the door opens normally, then the real problem is the remote. Perhaps dead batteries are the real culprit, so try to replace it and see what happens. You might need to replace the remote or ask your garage door contractor for assistance.
Door Won’t Open
If the garage door would not open when you use the interior switch, there might not be enough power to operate it, so check if it is plugged properly and the breakers have not flipped. The safety eyes might not be properly aligned, or the tracks are blocked so check them as well. If the door opens but is slow, perhaps the tracks just need some cleaning or lubricating. In case the garage door operates by itself, the remote may have shorted out. This may also be caused by a short in the motor or safety eyes of the remote control. You can check all the wires and the lights of the eyes. You may also read the manual to see if you can change the frequency of the door and follow the instructions.
Some problems with your opener could be simple, that you could solve them on your own. However, if you perform necessary checking and the troubles persist, it is best to contact one of our professionals especially if you are not good in mechanical repairs. This is to avoid more problems to happen.
